Ukraine's 2026 Grain Harvest Reaches 31.7 Million Tonnes

Ukraine had harvested 31.7 Mt of grain by 25 August, with Odesa region leading gross output. What the crop means for storage, transport and exports.

Ukraine's 2026 Grain Harvest Reaches 31.7 Million Tonnes

By 25 August 2026, Ukrainian farmers had harvested 6.759 million hectares, or 58% of the forecast area. Early grain and pulse output reached 31.734 million tonnes, with an average yield of 4.7 t/ha.

Wheat and barley harvesting is almost complete

  • wheat — 24.613 Mt from 5 million ha; 97% of the area harvested at 4.92 t/ha;
  • barley — 6.325 Mt from 1.457 million ha; 98% harvested at 4.34 t/ha;
  • peas — 786,900 tonnes; 99% of the forecast area harvested;
  • rapeseed — 3.789 Mt; the campaign is 99% complete.

The near-completion of early crop harvesting means the main physical volumes are already moving into elevators and port supply chains. Corn and other late crops will add further pressure on transport and storage during the autumn.

Odesa region leads gross grain output

Odesa region harvested 4.8197 Mt of grains and pulses from 1.1888 million ha. This included 3.2233 Mt of wheat, 1.312 Mt of barley and 285,000 tonnes of peas. For terminals in the south of the region, this creates a nearby cargo base but also stronger seasonal competition for trucks and storage windows.

Why storage is part of the export strategy

A fast inflow of grain does not always match the vessel schedule. Pre-export grain storage helps form a consistent cargo, complete laboratory checks and avoid dispatching trucks without a confirmed receiving window.

  • test each lot and do not blend grain with different specifications without a plan;
  • align accumulation with the available vessel loading rate;
  • include quality risk and storage cost in the CPT/FOB calculation;
  • prepare documents during accumulation rather than after the vessel arrives.
The harvest creates export potential, but the economic result depends on synchronising storage, transport, documents and the vessel.

For cargoes originating in Odesa region, the grain terminal in Kiliya can form part of a shorter regional route. Capacity and timing must still be confirmed for the planned shipment date.
