Incoterms for Grain Trade

FOB, CIF, CPT, EXW — delivery terms supported by GTK

Incoterms are international commercial terms that define the obligations of seller and buyer in goods delivery. The right choice of delivery terms affects price, risks and costs for both parties.

For grain trade, the most commonly used terms are FOB, CIF, CPT and EXW. GTK helps clients choose optimal terms and ensures fulfilment of the seller's obligations at every stage.

Key Delivery Terms

FOB (Free On Board)

The most common term for maritime grain export. The seller is responsible for delivering goods to the port and loading onto the vessel.

Seller: Delivery to port, loading onto vessel, export clearance

Buyer: Vessel charter, insurance, discharge at destination port

GTK provides full FOB service at Kiliya port

CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight)

The seller pays freight and insurance to the destination port. Convenient for the buyer, as they receive goods at their own port.

Seller: Delivery, loading, freight, insurance to buyer's port

Buyer: Discharge at destination port, import clearance

GTK helps arrange freight and insurance

CPT (Carriage Paid To)

The seller pays for delivery to a named destination. Can be used for any mode of transport, not just maritime.

Seller: Delivery to named destination, export clearance

Buyer: Insurance (optional), import clearance

GTK coordinates logistics to destination

EXW (Ex Works)

Minimum seller obligations — goods are made available at the seller's premises. All transport and clearance costs are borne by the buyer.

Seller: Making goods available at premises, packaging

Buyer: Delivery, export and import clearance, freight, insurance

GTK can serve as the EXW release terminal
